More information
Technical information about ferry rings
SWL and MBS on lashing, lifting, and securing equipment
Within lashing, lifting, and securing equipment, the terms SWL and MBS are widely used. SWL (Safe Working Load) indicates the maximum safe working load at which no permanent deformation occurs. MBS (Minimum Breaking Strength) indicates the minimum force at which the product fails or breaks. For ferry rings and lashing eyes, these values are essential for safe applications within trailer construction, transport, and industrial fastening systems.
Load classes and safety factors
For lashing applications, yellow is often used as an identification color, while red is more common for lifting applications. For ferry rings and lashing eyes, the MBS is generally at least twice the SWL. Different safety factors apply to lifting applications, often at least a factor of 4, depending on standards and application. Our ferry rings are tested to the specified load values.
Standards and markings
For larger series, product markings or imprints can be adapted to customer-specific requirements or relevant European standards. Contact us for custom versions or specific marking requirements.
Force values and units
Loads are indicated internationally in different ways, for example in tonnes (T), kilograms (kg), kN (kilonewtons), or daN (decanewtons). As a rule of thumb: 1 kg ≈ 10 N, 1,000 kg ≈ 1,000 daN, and 1,000 daN ≈ 10 kN. A ferry ring with a value of 12,000 daN corresponds to approximately 120 kN, or about 12 tonnes SWL.
Customization and larger versions
Woerden-Sales produces ferry rings and lashing eyes from high-quality steel grades that are hardened and tempered to achieve the required strength and reliability.
In addition to our standard versions, we also produce larger or customer-specific variants for trailer construction, transport, and industrial applications. For example, larger ferry rings, such as versions measuring 165 × 145 mm externally, are among the possibilities.
Our standard ferry rings are available with various load values, including versions with an MBS of 12 tonnes (115 × 115 mm) and 24 tonnes (133 × 143 × 25 mm). In addition, we develop and produce custom solutions for specific applications and serial production.
Heavier versions and custom solutions
In addition to our standard versions, we also produce lighter or heavier ferry rings and lashing eyes for specific applications. Available series include versions of 3, 5, and 8 tonnes. For heavy industrial applications, versions up to 36 tonnes and 41 tonnes are also possible.
Depending on the application, these products can be supplied in various finishes, including yellow powder-coated, plain steel, or galvanized. Customer-specific custom versions are also among the possibilities.
